Islands partner with Caring Cooks for spring music festival

Islands Insurance will sponsor a range of family activities at the Reasons to be Grateful arts and music festival being held in Howard Davis Park on Sunday 30th April 2017.

They have pledged their support of Caring Cooks of Jersey, one of three charities selected to have a presence at the festival, who are planning a full schedule of food-related activities on the day, ranging from live cookery demonstrations and tastings to micro growing and ‘make and take’ sessions. They’ll even have a pedal-powered smoothie bike on show for you to make your own fruit smoothies.

Melissa Nobrega, founder and chief executive of Caring Cooks, said the festival was a great opportunity to promote the benefits of healthy eating and to showcase the charity’s vision of empowering and influencing young people to make nutritious and tasty food a part of daily life, but in a fun and interactive way.

Caring Cooks of Jersey currently run three different programmes - a weekly meal service, a community cooking programme, and a kitchen garden project and Let’s Get Cooking programme with local primary schools.

“We are excited to be part of the Reasons to be Grateful festival, not only because it is a family event, but because the whole ethos of the festival resonates with what we, and the people who work and volunteer for us, stand for. It’s the perfect stage for us to share our vision with the community and get festival goers involved with ‘everything food’ in our Caring Cooks marquee. We couldn’t have done it without the sponsorship and volunteers from Islands,” said Mrs Nobrega.

Shirley Lester, director at Islands, said they were delighted to support such a major family and community event and hoped that their sponsorship of the Caring Cooks marquee and activity programme would help raise awareness of the charity and the nature of the advice and support it provided.

“Our company maxim is Taking Care of Tomorrow, and we fully support the great work Caring Cooks is doing to help ensure that Jersey’s children, and future generations, grow up healthy and recognise the importance of good food and nutrition,” she said.
